Re: Sloppy Criticisms of Zimbabwe Elections

If you are going to use my name in your posts, how about asking if it is Ok with me first? The last thing I need is a reputation for political activity and to have my articles exploited by the less-than-savoury members of the anti-Mugabe camp. I have had a few offers from some of these organisations and peoples. I am foremost a Rastafarian, and I know from history that after Mugabe, nothing will change for Rastafarian people. My struggle for freedom in Zimbabwe is bigger than parties and organisations.

"who claims to be from Zimbabwe" What the hell is that now except an attempt at disrespect? Now why you want to provoke me? The other person who I called a peasant tried to label me in racial terms, now you are trying to cast doubt on my nationality?

Turning to the purpot of your article- I take the invitation to respond to it as intent on your part to reciprocate.

You seek to address the situation from the same knee-jerk position I have spoken of. Because the West have a problem with Mugabe blah blah blah. The problems in Zimbabwe were there long before this "demonisation" you speak of. Many Zimbabweans do not give a monkey's what the West thinks. It is known that the US sold some $3m worth of riot suppression gear etc , long after the "sanctions" were imposed. How many Western businesses are still trading with Zimbabwe? I don't listen to Western media on this one. I ring home and talk to people. ( that is how I found out that although the elections were peaceful, they were not free and fair. And my name is still on the voter's roll. They would not let me check at the Embassy here in London)

"I mean, we know that since independence in 1980, that the Zanu PF has made it very clear that it has no intentions of giving up power to any form of opposition. So if you look at the history of Zimbabwe, the opposition movements that have come into existence have always been marginalized by Zanu PF"

You neglect to mention that being marginalized by Zanu PF means getting beaten up, harrassed and intimidated, and worse. Perhaps you think that this is perfectly normal. Is that how you do your politics wherever it is you claim to be from? So what you are saying is that Zimbabweans should tolerate every violation of the basic human rights because it happens elsewhere? That they should not complain or protest because if they do then it must be because the West blah blah blah Oh PUH-LEEZ!!!!!

When the peasants from Svosve invaded a farm, they did so peacefully. There was no attempt to vandalize or plunder, or extort protection from the owner. They did not disrupt farming on the farm, nor did they stop their own farming on their communal land. They just moved in and said they had had enough.

The food shortages in Zimbabwe can be linked to the farm invasions. Many settlers were just dumped on these commercial farms, and told to wait while things were being sorted out. Meanwhile, the price of everything, including transport back for those who were ready to give up- had all shot up. You should see the shacks these people live in. Some revolution.

I have had a look at your article, and I have seen little of merit. Perhaps you would care to draw my attention to specific points that you think I should answer?
