"Conscience does not permit us to be unconscious of our wickedness and the evil it manifests. Caught up in this terrestrial masquerade and subject to our fears we continue to make the same choices of self-interest and self-preservation. At times our egos might delude us into thinking that our choices benefit the larger society, but that's still just an illusion."
* What I am referring to by saying conscious evil is the fact that ones who are doing as they do today cannot hide behind a mask of ignorance. When one is ignorant, one is unconscious and can claim this defense in the halls of justice. Deliberate causing of chaos to inflict a new order of things is conscious evil.
Of course the rationalization for this is perhaps due to some perverted sense of bringing light to the dark world by the enlightened minds behind such strategy - as you have said "At times our egos might delude us into thinking that our choices benefit the larger society."
