Just my two cents, but I agree with those who believe the choice comes in the congregation to which we affiliate. I choose to cover my head a appropriate times, I choose to cover myself and not step out in indecent attire, dependant upon where I am. I say to to acknowledge that I have always loved the sea, and when I go to the sea to bathe I wear a bathing suit.
It often depends upon the context as to whether it is truly oppressive. I have always believed that when in a house of worship, I do not mind or rebel against the additional coverage, as it is not a place where it would be appropriate (in my eyes) to be seeking a mate.
I have had times in my life where in I did not go out of doors without my head covered, and others when I have gone uncovered. Personally I believe that two come together and work out the "rules" within their lives. If a bredren and sistren agree that she will keep her head covered, and he will provide for her then I see no fault.
There is always the possibility that people change, at which point the "rules" are re-assessed or the relationship fails.
I believe the mere implication that a sister must be oppressed should she choose this behaviour is euro-centric....
