I see your points Ayinde and I would like to say thanks for your sympathy. I believe that the problem with Aristide and his priestly background is that he essentially believed in the goodness of white folks. And he had been so used to seducing them with his speech or way of talking and the fact that he humbled himself in front of them. I truly would not be surprised to learn that he had some affairs with White French or otherwise priest. He behaves like that and he has had some private meetings with Abner Louima about undisclosed private matters. This in light of current issues and the abuses of the Catholic church led my mind to wonder.
I also wanted to add that the Haitian masses should not be blamed for their conditions at all. They have self love they have stood in the front lines during the Revolutionary struggles and they continue to do that now. However they are misled by charismatic leaders like Aristide who basically take their votes just to make a statement to the Whites in Ayiti and abroad and basically leave them dry. I still believe that if he had received the Aid that was promised to him of $500million and other funds he would have made some changes.
Unfortunately, he was surrounded by some bad apples, I know the situation well to gain some kind of credence because of truth and then loose it because you cannot control the folks in your surroundings. When I mentioned his priestly background I really meant to shed light on some struggles within Haitian society right now. In Miami or South Florida, what's going on in the Catholic Church is closely watched. And we knew of the abuses of priest against women they set up households and had children etc... But in Miami, there's a strong dislike and even hatred for the catholics. The majority of Haitians in that city are from the North West and they are strongly Protestants or one of its denominations or related sects (whatever, I'm not an expert and I truly don't care). They resent the catholic church and treat it like some kind of stepchild.
This is the context that I brought up Aristide's background in the priesthood. The Haitians who have taken over may not be catholics at all and they want to distance themselves as much as possible from that kind of stigma. When in fact, they are probably the most guilty.
If Aristide is not guilty of molesting or rape or any sexual volence than he should be treated as an innocent.
