How can you be justified before a God of retribution? God did it for you by coming to earth as Christ and bearing upon his flesh the divine retribution that would otherwise be visited upon you. In Christian theology, this work of Christ is called "the atonement." Now, to benefit from this free gift of forgiveness, all you have to do is to have faith that divine retribution is #4 above, and not #1 or #2.

Nope.

The biblical God created nothing but misery for himself by electing to set the system up like this in the first place. The biblical God had a wide range of options after the `fall' of A&E; and seems to have deliberately chosen the most utterly evil he could possibly come up with for no real reason at all.

Nope. Thats the modern spin. In ye ancient times, the death of Jesus on the cross was a literal ransom paid to the devil, not an atonement between man and God.

A God who really does this *is* Good, and can be both `good' and `just' with no serious problem because the `justice' is always *positive* (for the true benefit of the condemned).

A God who uses either of these two options (and the biblical God uses both) is automatically evil and ultimately self destructive. Christians have to resort to elaborate and utterly idiotic arguments to counter Gods evil on point 3; and tend to deliberately confuse `justice' with `vengance' to support point four.
