Good question. In my opinion, consciousness is a state of being aware. If one says that a man is conscious, in my opinion, one is saying that the man is aware of his environment, self, history, and people around him. By being aware of self, he knows what is beneficial to him and he knows what is not. Therefore, he has a clear overstanding of his allies (those who help him) and his enemies (those who hurt him).

Most importantly, for one to be conscious, he will take actions to eliminate that/those which is harmful to him and edify that/those which which are benefical to him and his people, who are extensions of him.

The man's livity will reflect this consciousness. Consciousness had nothing to do with religion in my opinion. Religions deal with sheeps being led by a shepard without question. The conscious man will always ask questions that pertain to his being.

The conscious man will not be afraid to go against the status quo if the status quo is detrimental to his survival.

One who simply stores up information is not conscious in my opinion. The conscious man knows that experience is always his best teacher. As Baba Marcus often says, "The University of Adversity".
