Re: Why the inability to fathom absolute truths?

Greetings Ayinde,

and let me say from the outset that this has never been any sort of contest of viewpoints, at least from my perspective. I am genuinely curious and am interested in your take on what is, at least to me, a question of fundamental importance.

"I did not expect YOU to be sure of anything I am posting here. Remember, these are MY experiences that I am sharing."

Absolutely no disagreement from me on this one. The most I think anyone can do when discussing this sort of thing is talk about their own experiences. As i said in the last post, i find it a beautiful thing that there are so many different expressions and manifestations of what is one of human kinds longest standing quests.

" It is ok if you feel people automatically get in line with their essence and have an automatic continuous flow without doing anything to turn on the flow. I know differently."

I dont believe that I have ever said anything about this being an automatic process. In fact I said it was a difficult one. All of the spiritual traditions that I have had any respect for have in common a non-nonsense approach to the enormous discipline required for spiritual development. I have exactly the same point of view. What I was trying to say is that what i seek to become exists within me already. I am not going to undergo some kind of physical change at the moment of satori (well, perhaps a neuro-chemical one, but that is just speculation in my part). And i dont think it is actually possible to be 'cut off' from the flow. There is, in the cosmology of livelyup, nothing but the flow, it isnt possible to be not a part of something that is utterly a part of what i am. I just dont think that my awareness of the flow (nice analogy) is as complete as it may possibly be.

"The positions some people hold on to essentially limit them. They feel people cannot know anything absolutely and/or the Universal essence is indefinable. By holding to their positions absolutely, within their stated uncertainty, they severely contradict themselves. They are then committed to trying to show that anything stated is in error or lacks definition even when they cannot prove that."

Am i to take it that you are referring to my good self here Ayinde? if so, it is my belief that I may not have been clear enough in expressing my point of view. So I will give it another shot.

You are right, I have some misgivings about the capacity of people to understand absolute truth, and I do think that the essence of truth is indefinable, in the sense that you cant write it down or say it in the same way that I can write down a rule of grammar or a mathematical equation. But these are not things I hold as some kind of dogma. I unequivically state that I cant be sure about this. The list of things that I KNOW is a very, very short one indeed. I am not comitted to showing error in this particular case at all, although i would be surprised if you were in any better position to 'prove' your ideas than I, or anyone else for that matter. people have been trying to prove that they 'know' the truth since there have been people, and it has not been a spectacularly successful endeavour.

So, I have done as requested, and at least had a go at explaining my position, however clumsily. I believe it is your turn now?

What is it that 'turns on the tap', so to speak?
