Greetings three sixty,
It is the freedom from culturally derived notions of 'good' and 'bad' that i am refereing to and i am not so sure that this concept is a culturally defined one. But it wouldnt be the first time i have gotten the cart before the horse.
There is at least a basic similarity between some of the tantric concepts, the zen notion of ,burning the buddha', and taoist ideas. It also seems to run through the mystic and shamanic traditions. These things all informed crowley and like western philosophers.
But this can very easily be twisted into the sort of uber-fascist thing that you seem to be refering to. And you are absolutely right, no one can escape the laws of nature, as we are all currently discovering. There is a BIG difference between overstanding gained through communion with the universe and that which is a purely intellectual exercise.
love and life
