Re: What does it mean to be black in the 21st cent

"Martin became a pawn for the christianized African-American bourgeoisie agenda"

Could you please explain with more facts such a claim?

"Malcolm the pawn of Islam and the Hon. Elijah Mohammed"

Did brother Malcolm not free himself from that state of pawnhood? and was this not the time that he became too effective and considered a threat to the point that the Elijah considered it prudent to eliminate him?

"The failure of these movements to maintain momentum, rests on their limited appeal."

These movements died because the leaders died, and there were no others to take up the banner effectively, blue-black or light-skinned, neither were present.

"Both had some characteristics that resonated but overall they both sought to restrict or define Africans using non-African standards. African liberation was conditional based on adherance to non-African ideals."

What features of African-ness did MLK or MX choose to sell out?

Marcus himself stated his admiration for white society. Not that he wanted to be white by any means, but can it be denied what they have accomplished in this time? We surely disagree with their means, but those means are definitely not the only way to reach some of the ends they reached.

They have a powerful education system (which empowers their children more than ours), they have an effective law-and-order system (which discriminates against ours, but protects their own), they have a stable political system (which maintains the power of the mainly white elite), they have a discriminatory economic system, but that system is fairly effective at creating white wealth (even though it is at the expense of the oppressed). Again, Marcus sought for us to achieve these things, through Black unity, because it was white unity (british, french, italians, irish, all uniting under their white 'melting pot' banner) that accomplished their things. Also we sought to do it under the banner of Love, Justice, Equality for all (something they were not able to adhere to).

Love And Peace,
Jah Melku
