Re: Colorism: Harry Belafonte
In Response To: Re: Colorism: Harry Belafonte ()

You mean like the lightskinned, red haired Malcolm X, Assata Shakur, and the brown skinned Mumia Abu Jamal who are/were NOT qualified to speak on the behalf of black people?

And the darker Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman and Armstrong Williams who ARE qualified to speak for black people?

Belafonte is burning fiyah on Bush and his regime. He is not afraid of the consequences of doing so. He dines with Hugo Chavez knowing that the west wants Chavez killed.

Belafonte has been championing for civil rights for decades.

If you think he is not considered black, then check when he performed on the Petula cCark show on NBC in the 60's. Clark, who was a white woman, touched Belafonte's arm after a performance. Plymouth motors who was the show's sponsor demanded that that segment be cut because they didnt want to show any contact between a black man and white woman on television.

He even made the movie "white man's burden" to show how racism and white supremacy is engrained in every facet of american society.

Colorism is real but you cant automatically assume that because a person is light brown that he/she has no idea of the black struggle.

Many Afrikans in America has so white genes (meaning more brown in hue) in them somewhere down the line. So I guess that would disqualify many Afrikans in america from speaking about the issues of racism and white supremacy.

Peace
