It is interesting that you should mention King James. The man was more in to the occult than anything. I understand he wrote ten books on the subject. And yes, his Bible was only made because the previous versions they had in Europe at the time did not endorse the divine right of kingship, something he wanted to push for.
But that should not detract us from the fact that it is the Bible- with its reference to a Davidic King who would be the Messiah- that points us to Haile Selassie. Bit of irony there too- the missionaries' own tool providing the key!!! Had they read it carefully themselves first, they would have known.
Central to Rastafari is the belief that the Emperor is the Second Advent of Christ and therefore God. Take that away and you have another religion. Anyone not subscribing to this belief is not a Rastafarian.
I respect all believers, to varying degrees. However, as much as any one of them would resent my claiming to identifying with them, I really get upset when some worshipper of Buddha or Babaji or Hathor or Muhammad then goes around calling themselves Rastafarian.
