Re: The end result is correcting injustices

Jahreal, you said:

“right now what i see in such a bling bling commercial, avaricious society is every man/woman for his or herself, get what you can while you can for as long as you can get away with it. in this enviorment, it would be hard to be believe that parents would tell lightskinned children not use their "talents" in achieving their paper chase.”

Here’s my take on this:

Light-skinned privilege benefits light-skinned Blacks and not the Black community as a whole. There is no way that dark-skinned Blacks can reap the benefits of the ugly illusion that light is right. So telling light-skinned children to use their light skin privilege to escape poverty says nothing to the Black community. In any case, light-skinned ones receive privileges from both the Black community and whites; there is no need to instill this idea to light-skinned children because they would eventually learn it through experience. Also light skin is not a talent; and not all light-skinned ones are talented as many would like to believe. For example, the actress Halle Berry is able to access many roles because of her light skin and not because of talent. Many other light-skinned ones use their colour to gain economic success but that has not helped dark-skinned ones gain the same opportunity. Instead, it has set a nasty precedent that has served to further disadvantage dark-skinned Africans. Also, whites benefit the most as their ideal of beauty is maintained and they can claim ‘unity’ and ‘oneness’ by parading their token light-skinned and ‘polished’ Blacks for the world to see. Only a severely confused mind could think that this is helping the Black community because even well-intentioned light-skinned Blacks will buy into the illusion and continue the gross tradition. Look around. Have you seen Black people being assisted in any real way by lighter skinned ones? I think not.
