Yes there is something unsettling to me about the use of the word defend. When checking myself, there is a tendency that one has to keep in check…that is trying to mold and shape something wrong into being something right. We whites have a hard time admitting when we are wrong. So language becomes a weapon with its various connotations, we slip and slide with it, to try and adjust to be in line. So I check for this a lot. We whites cannot distance ourselves from the elite. Without us whites, both consciously and unconsciously, directly and indirectly supporting them…there would be no elite. In this game, we inherent the “offensive” jersies that gives us privilege and benefits. I feel it is hard to be able to say that we are playing defense…when this society already puts us on the offense. It is not as simple as saying “hey look I am going to play defense now”….we have to learn how to use our offensive position to be in order of truth and right. To me Africa for the Africans, Europe for the European….is yes about equal rights and justice – sovereignty – but to me it is also very much about collective responsibility….we have to clean up our own backyard…and not vibe it that we are defending another’s backyard.
