In our presentations we bridge the senses to Africa through cuisine, slides, and music which all support the reality that Africa is land of Culture and Humanity. The focus on the slave/captive castles is a key part to challenging ones knowledge and compicity concerning the horrific genocide and separation for Black People from their land of birth.

You ask: "is it necessary to differentiate between captives and slaves"?

To show that their was resistance in Africa to slavery/captivity (notice the cannons point out to sea and in to land at the slave castles), on the slave ships to the "new world"(fighting for liberty and jumping overboard), and once reaching the carribbean(escaping to the hills) is key. To show that ones are returing to Africa through Repatriation and the institutions like the U.N.I.A that laid the ground work for self determination is key. People coming out of the presentations are faced with realities they never knew concerning Africa and the Diaspora including the past and present captivity perpetuated through religion, economics, and classism on a global scale. People are not coming away from the presentations justifying slavery because biblically it is "normal or justifiable". To differniate cymantically between "slaves" and "captives" may be an important opporuntity. What I know to be paramount is providing a window into the essence of barbarism that built the "new world", the essence of liberty that lives in mentally free people, and the essence of Africa having sustained life and awaiting more creators...creation oriented people.
