Re: Neanderthal genes in modern humans

Honour

I may be doing this scholar an injustice but he looks like one who handles facts the way a good tailor handles cloth and an ill-proportioned client. A good tailor is known as one who is able to make even the most odd-shaped person look decent just by the way he (the tailor) cuts the cloth.

He describes the neanderthal as a 'cold adapted species', then he says, in a casual kind of way, "....agression, ethnocentric ideas and racism were a characteristic of warm-adapted species".

It can no longer be disputed that neanderthals are prominent in the ancestry of caucasians, so, what now needs to be done is to fix up the image of the neanderthal. Take them out of thier previous description as knuckle dragging primitives and turn them into pre-historic picassos, elvis presleys, einsteins and maybe even jesus christ. According to him, neanderthals invented agriculture and the domestication of animals. Neanderthals, he may have said (if he'd had more time) made nike go "swoosh!".

Then he described the neanderthal as a "Non-hostile meat eaters" How did he (neanderthal) get the meat? Reason the animals to death maybe, loved the mammoth till they could'nt take it anymore and just lay on thier sides and said, "beautiful neanderthal, take your inteligently designed stone knife and cut yourself a steak. Take a lump from the rump, thats where the best meat is..." I have never known a meat-eater who was devoid of aggression. In fact, from what I have observed, the more meat there is in the diet, the more aggressive (i.e. hostile) the person (or species) is.

Then he said "People with ADHD is characterized by Thom Hartmann, as having very good traits for hunting. Neanderthals were more like predators, .... The Neanderthals might have hunted like wolves." Which contradicts the whole 'non-hostile meat eater' assumption.

Then, here is another passage that I found most telling : "Coyotes and wolves have been isolated for 1 million years, and far more generations, but can still produce fertile offspring."

Coyotes and wolves are different species. If what he said there is right, why would it be so hard to see what happenned between the neanderthal and the African as a joining of two different species?

"The most likely reason for this is that the specialized circuit for analyzing faces is adapted to recognize Neanderthal faces rather than modern human faces. It's very interesting that face blind people often use hair and hairlines to recognize people, and very seldom facial features. When they look at faces, they seem to just be blank."

Which explains -- "They all look the same to me"

"In particular those with Tourette show differences in mating behavior. Women often are vulgar, while men can get in various trouble that in some cases are considered as criminal or unethical. Homo-, bi- and transsexual preferences are also frequently found in autistic people."

"Autistic people doesn't places people outside of their own groups in their structure. They are simply ignored."

"Neanderthals very often had "rodeo-type" injuries. This probably was caused by wrestling large (semi) domestic animals. Masochistic males get pleasure from being spanked by a female dominatrix. Autistic individuals frequently have unusual sensitivities for pain. They are both more sensitive to touch, and less sensitive to pain. This must have it's origin in sexual selection, and in Neanderthal habits of wrestling large mammals. Possibly it served the function of better handling the pain afflicted on them in their handling of animals, and this formed a ritual where spanking were used to harden their bodies. The pain differences would separate common pain from wrestling from dangerous pain. This is what is manifested in the pain differences in autism."

"Reciprocal altruism, according to evolutionary psychology, is an essential component in social relations. In spite of this, most autistic people lacks the fundamental skills for this."

"Neanderthals probably collected for the winter season. Maybe they smoked meat, and kept in caves. Autism is associated with excessive collection of similar things."

All the above would explain the chauvinism, the selfishness, the prediliction for warped sexuality, and the obsession with material goods (the collector syndrome) that has characterised the 'white' species throughout history. If the gene for autism is actually present in all caucasians, then that would explain a lot. For that lesson alone, I appreciate what this scholar has done (in spite of himself).
