the "Hollywood" governator is more keenly attuned to public opinion (no matter how superficial), and is likely to be more responsive to media-highlighted appeals than his predecessors. Nazi pasts have succesfully been obliterated by media and public opinion in the past (see: Kurt Waldheim). Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that it can happen again in CA. Schwarzenegger wants to keep office.....so despite his Nazi past, he could reasonably look to whatever high-profile (and community-supported) "names" , national and international, who are supporting Tookie, and make a recommendation based solely on this. Of course, he is still likely to pass other racist legislation that does not receive the same degree or focus of media support (who can forget the "3 strikes and you're out" law????, for which my cousin is currently incarcerated for life)
