Re: First Kill the Language, Then the Culture

Greetings Fyahman,

absolutely!

The FIRST thing all successful cultural assassins do is ban or repress the use of native languages. The romans and normans did it to tremendous effect to the native celts of the british isles, to the extent that there are virtually no celtic words left in what is english today. A tradition that was also carried on by the subsequent english invaders of ireland.

On the up side, the revival of traditional languages can spark a huge revival of culture, once again to use the celts as an example, the reinvigoration of irish, scotts gaelic, welsh, and gallician languages is pretty closely related to the rise in their political awakening and cultural rebirth.

Gman, if you see this, I would be interested to know what effect the welsh language television station is having over there?

love and life
paul
