What is the origin of the word 'jew' and what does it mean? You said it is not part of your heritage to give yourself a name like 'jewish', well, to call oneself 'jewish' is no different from calling oneself Yoruba. Both names define an AFFILIATION. Neither is a religious label. Yoruba defines my affiliation to a language and a culture. There are others who are from this same root who also have the additional affiliation of 'christian' or 'buddhist'. To call oneself a 'jew' is not to define one's religion, as there are zionist jews who would not be seen dead in a synagogue and 'jews for jesus'.

Abo-Oxa (Yoruba), Vodun (Gun), Muntu (Bantu), or the three principal cults among the Dogon (Awa, Lebe and Binu) are all names that serve the same purpose as 'muslim' or 'christian'. Each is a description of how a person relates to the Almighty. But, according to you, these are rare incidences in Africa because, when you say 'most', you imply that you are speaking for the majority. Yet, you cannot mention one by name. So, I ask again : state the peoples that you know in Africa who follow a path that has no description. And don't come again with what some princeton pimp said. State what you (as a Tanzanian) knows. Come from the source. But, ensure that whatever you put foward can be independently verified and that it supports your 'most' allegation.
