Pologamy is a version of what Westernized Africans do and did practice in one form or another anyway. It is a Biblical and an African tradition. I was just reading Jomo Kenyatta's Facing Mount Kenya, and the first wife typically would ask the husband for a second wife to help with the house hold duties and child rearing. First wife would help find the new wife and choose her. Didn't most of the fore fathers of Judeo-Christian antiquity practice polygamy? It is not new, and it makes more sense thatn sneaking around and neglecting "outside" children. It takes a village to raise a child refers to the tradition of these children belonging to the village and tribe and being raised by all of their extended family members. So, I can see the conditioned Western response in so many Africans. I also think we all know that in reality, many of these modern marriages/relationships are not honestly monogamous anyway. Father Abraham had many sons, and at least a couple of wives if I recall correctly. It's not necessarily an evil practice, just unfamiliar and different to Westerners.
