"Their modern hypothesis says "gun, germs and steel"
How ludicrous is this theory? Even more shameful is the fact that PBS devoted a whole week to the propogation of this ridiculous theory as fact.
One laughable hypothesis was the lack of protein in the diet of the Guinean tribes and as evidence Diamond uses the absence of domesticated livestock.
I would suggest that one can hardly find a much richer and healthier source of protein, provided natures waters have not been subjected to the civilizing force of Western Man, in the form of seafood.
We learn from fossil evidence at the Blombos cave site in SA that early Africans have been dependent on the sea for sustenance since the dawn of man. In fact is was this same reliance on seafood that prompted their migrations, along the coastline, out of Africa, to other parts of the world.
Among "Black Folk" fish is referred to as good brain food. Conversely, "White Folk" are only familiar with the deleterious effects on the brain caused by high concentrations of methylmercury prevalent in modern fish and other ocean dwelling populations.
