Our current Republican President Levy Mwanawasa is an embarrassment. Surely a President should prepare carefully for all official statements. He should routinely consult before any speech. I doubt if our President does consult. If he does, then we are in even a bigger mess.

How could he demean us Zambians when he talked about Zambians' attitude towards irrigation.

If given loan facilities for essential inputs for irrigation, with proper implementation policy guidelines, most, if not all, farmers would be able to repay such loans within two years of continuous production.

Why do most of our villagers have small gardens by the streams if they didn't value irrigation? But how many can afford even the cheapest manual (hand/foot) pumps, let alone connecting horse pipes, etc. The Church leaders he was talking to in Rome know better about the levels of poverty in our villages than our President. What a shame!
