The white farmers were mostly involved in tobacco, which was the biggest single foreign currency earner. The forex is needed for so many things.
It is not to say that there are no Black farmers, there are many. But the allocation of farms has been based on political patronage rather than any sound business sense.
It all boils down to ineptitude on the part of government. Now we have this embarrassing situation where we have to ask the white farmers back. Not only embarrassing, but exposing us to the danger of a situation where they have more bargaining chips.
This is what happens when you try and run an economy with slogans and clenched fists.
