'The good ship Jesus' was one of Hawkins first Slave ship. However Spanish slave traders were bringing slaves to the Americas before him.
Sir John Hawkins was the captain of that Jesus ship, and he is on record as the first ENGLISH slave trader. He took the slaves to Hispaniola (Haiti/Santa Domingo). It is reported that he left England for Africa in October 1562. However, African slaves were taken to Hispaniola around 1511, which was before Hawkins was even born.
