Re: Tourism Leads Job-Creation Charge

You said: "The reason most people go to visit different placesis to experience a different culture and way of life."

"to experience a different culture and way of life" ??? Not true at all. What do you think that means? Do you really feel Whites come to the Caribbean and Africa to experience OUR way of life?

Well if you did not say "most people", I might have been cool with that statement, but I know whites do not come to the Caribbean to experience OUR culture. They come for Black theater – the show Blacks are usually paid to put on for whites. Most of the hotels, and tour guides keep them in 'tourist reservations'. They rarely venture out into the real culture of the people.

A few lousy pan men playing rum and coca cola, and a few doing limbo in the hotels is still not our culture. But most whites who visit the Caribbean are cool with reveling in their colonial overlord fantasies, and the people are trained to accommodate that. It is mostly a performance.

However, Blacks get to experience the 'culture' of whites when they travel. Whites don't shelter their racism and poor service to Blacks. They do not feel to put on performances for Blacks. So we get to see them as they are.

Most of tourism is usually about theater, and that is not real culture.
