Re: Nomadic Peoples in Africa - Patriarchal?

Iziz

Greetings Iyah you ask some very interesting questions indeed. I don't subscribe to theories supporting polygenesis. I believe strongly that life began in Africa and subsequently, human beings developped culture there as well. The migration out of Africa and into other parts of the planet occurred for various reasons and search for food and war or violence may have been the culprit. Hegel would have us believe that black Africans did not make use of the ocean and so they did not develop into great seafolks or their maritime was not sophisticated. This is bogus. Sexism and gender stratification came about due to availability of resources.

We know for example that men cannot bear children (at least not yet)so women had to have been there at the beginning. The idea that Zeus gave birth to Athena from his head was a male centered narrative derived to show his intelligence and perhaps his love for his female children.

And of course we know where the Greeks get their information from-the great universities of North and the interiors of Africa.

Nomadic travel takes us in and out and around. One such account is told in the book MY Spirit and I and I relish her experience because I felt that it best represented the experiences of folks like the San in Southern Africa who are now stabelized in one community and area. Borders are the problematic they are erected to put people in their place and to control folks just like prisons.

one argument advanced about the sexism issue is the erected structures that were common in parts of old Western Europe but not in Africa. There were some in various parts of Africa built by different folks for specific purposes. I feel that this issue may be the key to answering some of the questions that you ask. I will look in my black Athena book for some clues.

Blessings.
