Re: ayinde
In Response To: Re: ayinde ()

Several factors come into play. The Rasta/ General Message Board has a longer history with which to reflect on the history/character of its posters. The present admin has been involved at management level from inception and thus is quite aware of the motivations of many posters here, also of their history in the space. There is also the question of the ((limitations)) of one board over the other in terms of ease of moderation. The reasoning forum has a chat and instant messaging where it is way easier to explain things to posters on the spot. This makes the process of moderating a lot smoother. What often works well on one board may not on the other and moderators have to use their resources, discretion and confidence to make it work.

It is also quite understandable that you cannot be aware of what takes place behind the scenes. Many abuses are quickly removed before many posters get to observe them. Certainly we will not start posting hostile, and insulting emails on the board just to prove our case. Nor will we casually expose our suspicions of those who were behind three previous cyber attacks that followed heated exchanges on this board, that caused us to eventually stop full access to the archives.

So many abuses come from posters behind the scenes that differ from what takes place on the board. However if we were to expose email correspondences, then we feel that those who may legitimately wish to communicate privately will not be able to trust the confidentiality of their emails. They can easily fear that their personal information or experiences could be exposed in the aftermath of any possible disagreement. As a result it is not always practical or necessary for us to expose all the abuses of people to explain away why certain decisions are made. That type of defensive response can do more harm than good in certain cases.

Often times the average person may simply look at the words one may utter. They can take things at face value and maybe dismiss many abuses based on their own experiences or values. However, others certainly see much behind the conduct of others, and can view as clear as day people’s intentions, even from what they do not say. This coupled with behind the scenes information does build up quite a profile of the character of many individuals. The extended resources of the moderators are certainly not limited to what many posters may be able to discern.

At the end of the day we are aware that some things will go unanswered and that people will not have all the information to judge decisions that we may make. Thus people are free to judge the decisions anyhow they feel, especially as we do not believe that we have to be defensive about our positions on many things.

To be biased in favour of a bigger truth is the whole point of improving learning. This site and its moderators and administration have certain standards. These standards and values are all geared toward this bigger truth. People generally like the comfort of accommodation and acceptance, where anything goes and their most cherished false ideas and bad behaviour will remain unchecked. However being equally accommodating of right and wrong is not balance. It is simply hypocrisy.
