There is a strange and ironic paradox in this situation. It seems as if the political vaccuum can be filled by outside interests(outside Africa) if the opposition is allowed to gain grounds. If the authorative regime is not in the pocket of the financial elite of the globalized economy - they will use whatever route necessary to undermine the regime - and this can and does include legitimate oppressed groups within a country. When the opposition gains ground and a chaotic slip in power ensues - the vaccuum can quickly be filled by outside interests.
