Re: The woman that is come into thine house

"I feel that these men have been misguided by society's or the downpressors position of the Rasta man as a biblical figure. They do see us as some kind of biblical people and they expect us to behave accordingly. Most seem to forget that the bible contains not factual evidence or events but allegories to historical occurences and culture, speech etc. In fact, it is best understood through anthropological or social scientific lenses."

Rastafari developed as a movement in a period where the bible was the only book that was widely accessible. Though many learned the lessons of nature though living in a natural environment, some also understandably used the bible as a mean of inspiration. In this present time where far more books are information are far more available, the over reliance on the bible as well as a biblical/Christian (mis)conception of self has remained. Thre reasons for this can be found in the predominance of Christian molded institutions as well as the processes of colonialism which involved imposing alien concepts on African peoples.

this white/male/biblical/judeo-christian indoctrination operates to re-enforce male domination and suppress the female into a passive, subservient, (sex) object role. From my own experience existing as a man in this male-dominated society, it takes a lot of work to constantly hack away at this imbedded superiority and arrogance. Because males and even females have become de-sensitised to the reality and nature of female discrimination, it is not even identified as a problem/reality. The path of Rasta is about addressing not only race issues but also gender discrimination and all other forms of false standards and abuse. To this end, the voice and perspectives of women, more so Black women must be heard.
Judeo-Christianity as well as other religions have contributed to this by making those that experience oppression accept their stations in life that are laden with abusive interactions.
