the word "Ras" is also shared by the Arabic languages and carries a similar meaning - "head."

"Rasta" is a word from a language more ancient than the Amharic/Semitic languages to which they owe their origin. It was the culture and civilization of the Nile Valley which was the genesis of all "middle-eastern" civilizations.

Some would like to view Ras Tafari through the lenses of a relatively newer historical perspective of the Judeo-Christian, while others like to go further back into history.
