Re: Turning Haiti into One Big Sweatshop

People are not going to get over those social issues because they claim to embrace Christianity, Islam or even Rastafari. These underlying issues cause many new organizations to be formed, but many quickly turn these organizations into similar 'feel good' clubs that do not tackle these core issues.

So it is not surprising that Racism, Colorism and Gender discrimination are also part of Rastafari as a movement. In the earlier times of its resurgence, it was mostly Black people working out their issues. There were no Whites and others, so they may not have seen that they still had to deal with all these social issues, if not for themselves but for those to come.

Hence, the feel-good rhetoric by those who are not receptive to the real social concerns is usually a veil to escape their own complicity in the suffering of others.

It is because of these unaddressed issues that many, even well-intentioned ones, could not be moved by what the U.S. is/was doing in Haiti. I mean Haiti is right here, and if they cannot see it there then I do not expect them to see dark-skinned Black Africans as people who should be allowed to govern their own affairs, even in the continent of Africa.
