Times Of The End: Ch 14, Emperor Nero

Emperor Nero

This is just a little bit of what I found and sampled from the internet.
There’s a lot more on the internet, use a good search engine and you’ll find
more.

Nero was the Roman emperor from 54 to 68 AD. He is remembered most for his
perverse mind and his persecution of Christians.

Nero was born in Antium in 37 AD to Agrippina the Younger and Gnaeus
Domitius Anenobarbus, a great-grandson of Augustus. He experienced a very
unstable childhood. The Emperor Caius Galigula banished his family around 39
AD, seizing the entire family's fortune, and his father died when he was
only three years old. He was raised by his mother and they were poor, but
that changed when Agrippina married her uncle, the emperor Claudius. At this
time, Nero was being tutored by the famous philosopher Seneca the elder.
Agrippina convinced Claudius to adopt Nero and in 50 AD he became the
probable heir to the throne, even ahead of Claudius's own son!! In 54 AD
Agrippina murdered Claudius and Nero became ruler at the age of 17.

Nero was a very educated young man, he was tutored by a famous philosopher,
Seneca. Nero was extremely spoiled and believed that he was the best in the
world at everything. He started to enter the public games in the circus, and
he won. ( Not because he was good, but because he was Emperor. ) Nero also
thought himself to be one of the world’s greatest artists. He would perform
the music he wrote himself for everybody who he could persuade to hear it.
Nero was a cold-blooded murderer. He murdered Agrippina his mother, and he
forced his teacher, Seneca, to commit suicide. In 64 a fire broke out in
Rome and burned most of the city to the ground. It is rumoured that Nero sat
and watched the city burn down. The people of Rome disliked Nero so much,
they thought that he had started the fire. When Rome was close to a
rebellion, Nero started to spread the rumour that it was the Christians who
had started the fire. In that way the executions of the Christians started.
The execution of Christians didn’t stop for almost 250 years. In 69 Nero had
gone too far and the people stormed the palace. Nero comitted suicide helped
by two of his slaves, the Julio-Claudian dynasty was over. In 69 four people
fought each other to be the next Emperor. Those four were: Galba, Otho,
Aulus Vitellius, and Vespasian. Vespasian won and founded the Flavian
dynasty.

Nero was obsessed with Greece and Greek culture, frequently travelling there
and participating in poetry, singing and games as well as orgies and
parties. In 68, after an extensive time there, a food shortage and unrest
brought him back to Rome. After his return there were many uprisings against
him. Vindex, the governor of Gallia Lugaunensis led one, and this spurred on
many others who wanted to see the tyrannical Nero removed. Rome was as a
whole tired of Nero, as he was more interested in his own self-seeking life
of pleasure than in ruling the most powerful empire in the world.

Nero's reign finally came to an end in 68 AD when he committed suicide with
the help of his secretary, Epaphroditus. He is said to have muttered before
his death, "What an artist dies in me!"

Does history repeat itself? … Time reveals. Nero was a cold-blooded
murderer, he didn’t care about anyone but himself, he abused his power and
was hated by the people of his kingdom. Today the Official Beast name is OLU
JONES. His initials are OJ (sound familiar?).
