As the liason for the Rastafari Community of Washington D.C., I am posting the message sent to the community this afternoon by Ras Sela, Coordinator for the Panama Conference. He posts the following message to all Rastafari pertaining to the Conference:

Greetings & blessings in H.I.M Haile I Selassie I Rastafari Divinity:

InI here in Panama have made all the contacts and preparation for this trod with government official, who put their hands to make this conference a reality. But things in the country are in suspense. For the past week, the people of Panama are manifesting to the President of the Nation for the economic crisis the country is experiencing at this time. Last Wed. May 9, Panama City was up in a violent confrontation with police forces and it will continue until the President develop an economic plan for this nation. Because of the manifestation, the Mayor of Panama City does not want to take on the responsibility of the conference. InI in Panama feels that Rastafari should not cancel the conference, but the source of financing the trod as close his doors on InI. I man have exhausted energies and part of I financial resources to coordinted the conference. At this time the Airline feels that without the Mayor´s assistance they can not take the full load of the tickets, they will give a 20% discount to any Ras that forward for the conference. Also, food, lodging and local transportation were the Mayor´s office responsibility and that to is out of his hands. I feel that an attempt should be made for a conference in the future to get the houses in inity, because in my communication with bredrins I realized that much division exist among Rastafari abroad. The political crisis in Panama have damping Black Solidarity Day and the conference I hope InI overstand my situation. I man try hard and made contacts up to last week to assure the realization of the conference, until this crisis took precedent. InI must stand strong to make our conference either now or later.
I need a reply back on this situation.
