The use of expletives

While I understand the use of certain colourful language in repeating what one was told and to emphasize a point, some tact needs to be used.

In Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean countries the use of certain words is illegal.

While our Websites (Triniview.com, Trinicenter.com, Raceandhistory.com, Howcomyoucom.com) and forums engage an international audience, they are part of our educational project and as such we encourage schools like our children’s school to view comments as part of their social awareness program. People should be aware that they are not simply addressing their peers, but a far wider audience that includes children.

International rating systems receive reports about the type of language used on a Website and this affects whether many schools could access the Website. Children in classrooms in the Caribbean would not be allowed to surf a Website during school hours if recognizable foul language is used.

This is a sensitive issue, and we are not trying to tell persons how to express themselves.
Our main concern is whether the few schools that support our work would be allowed to continue viewing these pages.

We have started duplicating contributions on the Rastafari Times Message Board so institutions that share similar concerns can continue to view an edited version of the discussions.

Until the users of this forum, make a decision on this we would not carry a link to this page from Trinicenter’s Front-page so please bookmark this forum.

Thank you,
Amon
