Re:Rewriting History

The gleaner was filled with stories about Bedwards's folly. Whatever foolishness you may be trying to sell, Bedward DID say he and his followers would "fly to heaven'. There are many eyewitness accounts, the papers were filled with it, and many documents still exist, including Bedward's own printed words. He was a madman who claimed to be Jesus. He was also an early opponent of the white dominated power structure, and it may well be that his battles with them helped to drive him mad.

It is despicable to try to rewrite history, to LIE about what happened. Use common sense: why would his poor, deluded followers sell and give away their possessions? They then had nowhere to go. They really believed him when he said, over and over again, out loud and in print, widely reported in the Gleaner, that he and his followers were going to fly up to heaven on December 31, 1920, taking off from in front of his church. An early version of Air Jamaica? Another cancelled flight?

Stop distorting the truth to fit your racialist agenda. Bedward was crazy, at the end, and he did make those crazy claims. I personally knew people who heard him with their own ears, including a grandaunt of mine, who got me interested in this person in the first place.
