REBEL SALUTE 2002 -- NINE YEARS AND COUNTING

On January 12, 2001, Rasta Reggae superstar TONY REBEL stages REBEL SALUTE-- the stage show which has become the annual showcase of authentic, original cultural reggae devoted to highlighting the spiritual message of reggae's Rastafari roots. Each year reggae's cultural icons perform at REBEL SALUTE to a massive crowd of adoring fans, most of them dressed in traditional Red,Gold and Green garments and waving Ethiopian flags.

The emphasis on Rastafari culture is emphasised by the fact that no alcohol or meat products are allowed to be sold at REBEL SALUTE. It's an all-night celebration -- a secular Nyabinghi where praises are chanted from both stage and audience. To quote the Mission Statement issued by Tony Rebel's Flames Productions Inc. which manges the event, the intention is: "... to contribute through our musical showcase REBEL SALUTE towards the promotion and the preservation of the healthier aspects of reggae music, as part of the mandate for nation building."

This year the line-up of REBEL SALUTE artists headed by Tony Rebel himself, includes artists already idolized for their deeply spiritual messages such as Capleton, Sizzla, Luciano, Culture, Junior Reid, Marcia Griffiths, Barrington Levy, Sugar Minott, Carl Dawkins, Ritchie Stephens and Angie Angel.

Showcasing, as always, new talent, REBEL SALUTE 2002 features "Ark" a reggae violinist who surprised the entertainment and media leaders gathered at the Rebel Salute launch party, and "Turbulance" (Left) -- the SingJay whose style some say is 'the hotta'. Whether chanting or amusing, "Turbulance" has a message of joy, love, unity, repatriation and upliftment of Black people which is delivered in a powerful format. Also featured will be newcomer Swade, who teamed up with his mentor Tony Rebel for the chart-topping smash hit "Just Friends", and Rasta Empress Queen Ifrica.

A new feature of this year's staging of REBEL SALUTE is that it will be streamed on the Internet and available via Pay-per-view. Further details can be obtained from the REBEL SALUTE website. A superbly organized production will ensure smooth entrances and exits to the show, complete security and adequate parking for the expected 25,000 patrons.
