I thought that was common knowledge now.
I see even A&E shows a lengthy documentary on the history of Martial Arts and they clearly state it originated in Africa. The earliest evidence they show came from stone paintings found in Nubia. The video is available in Barnes and Nobles.

Basil Davidson covers this in his video series "AFRICA the story of a continent". He even shows more details than A&E.
