Seen, I for one overstand the importance of very much taking a back seat and helping when asked in the struggels of 'others', by which i mean in this case black people, women, etc, as i would expect others may largely take a supporting role in struggles that are closer to my situation.

But i believe that in the final analysis we are all combatting different manifestations of the same problem. By this i do not mean to reduce the struggle of black people to being just another symptom of a greater problem, it is clearly not that. But i do think that in order to truly realise the goal of equality and justice somewhere along the way issues related to the environment (for example) will also have to be addressed. I also think that the closer all of these various agendas and struggles come to their goals the more that people will probably come together in loose alliances to attack common problems.
Education is deifinately one of the keys (those adds that you talked about sound great!). I have also seen a little bit lately on 'culture jamming', where people go and very creativley vandalise things like billboards to expose the foolishness that often underlies their message.

It will be a long trod for all of us that do care about others and our livity, but in my limited experience people with passion will eventually overcome apathy and half hearted self interest.
